Services for Children Services for Children
The Service Network for Children of Inmates strives to positively impact the lives of children and caregivers directly affected by parental incarceration.

We identify and qualify children and families that will greatly benefit from our services and document their numbers. The Service Network for Children of Inmates identifies current services, identifies and seeks to fill the gaps in those services in order to present the affected families with a full range of benefits. We do this in a number of ways.
  • Opens the issue and creates a dialogue with the public, stressing that we need their assistance to identify this reclusive population.
  • Host stakeholder meetings, monthly information interviews, and training sessions with decision makers and policy officials in the north, middle, and south areas of Miami-Dade County.
  • Through the dissemination of 10,000 brochures, posters, referral contact cards, and arrest follow-up communication cards. Contact cards are deployed with patrol officers and are handed out at the time of arrest if the child/caregiver is present; if they are not present, a card is left if the arrest happens near or in the home of the offender.
  • During in-person meetings and through print materials, individuals are also referred to our resource-rich website.
  • Emails newsletters are routinely sent to those that have visited the site or have volunteered their time.
  • Letters of invitation that explain the program and how to enroll qualified children in our program are being used by Team members when they are contacting potential clients from a data list or referral.
  • Extensive training is held for persons who are potential first contact for children of inmates and their caregivers. This includes, but is not limited to, other service providers, school counselors, physicians, and clinicians, law enforcement and correctional officers.
  • Operate community-based service coordination centers in 5 locations. These centers act as hubs for intake, case management, prevention, intervention, and outreach efforts.
